Here are a some pieces of writing that showcase the skills I've developed throughout my years here at Miami University. Sample images are included on the right and beneath them a downloadable document file.

Pitch Letter

This is a pitch letter that I developed in my advanced strategic communication writing class. We had to hypothesize an idea to pitch to a reporter and create a media kit that would entice them to write the story. This assignment really helped me learn how to condense my writing and develop key ideas in order to serve a reporter and a business at the same time.

Attorney Persuasive Argument Paper

This is a small portion of my closing argument for my role as a defense attorney on the topic of copyright. This was for a class called media law and ethics. I conducted the cross examination on the the plaintiff witnesses throughout the trial and stood and delivered this argument to the class to close it. Many weeks of preparation were required in order to complete this project.

I really learned a lot about copyright and how the jury process works by taking advantage of this opportunity. I was also able to develop further knowledge and confidence in regards to my public speaking and presentation skills for the future.

News Release

This is a sample news release from my advanced strategic communication writing class. I created this news release and acted as a reporter for a story that was focused on the client and community we were working for. This was a tough assignment because the goal was to gain attention for our company and provide support for our clients at the same time.

Writing this news release taught me that there is a lot more that goes into the business of newswriting than I expected. It also made me realize that every word is written with tedious care and thought. I will certainly cary this writing philosophy forward and apply it to my career.

Short Film

I worked with my friends from a media productions class at Miami University to create a short film that was set in Oxford. The narrative is about a girl who is being stalked by a creepy man from her social profile. We wanted to make the film relatable to how our world operates today and to generate some awareness about these types of issues.

As a team of three we split up the roles as seen on the image to the right. We created multiple meeting times with our team and cast to shoot the film in different locations in order to get the shots that matched our story. This involved a lot of coordination, discipline and execution.

This project really helped me learn more about my creative side. I usually don't enjoy art because I'm not the best at creating things. I think it was helpful for me to explore this other side of myself because it showed me that I possessed helpful and applicable skills when it came to work production and idea contribution in an unfamiliar environment.

Spanish Story

I created a revised version of Jack and the Beanstalk in my Spanish 311 class here at Miami University. For this assignment, we were allowed to choose any fictional narrative and revise the story in any way that we wanted. We could change the plot, characters and even the conflict. I chose to rewrite the plot and characters.

The story is about Jack who has a speaking disability and is made fun of by the students at school. He ends up meeting a woman at his favorite store in town. The woman gives him magic dice and Jack uses them when he's being chased by the students again.

The dice end up turning him into the big bad wolf which scares off the kids.

I enjoyed writing this because it allowed me to critically engage with a text and turn it into something different. By using my Spanish skills, I was able to convey new ideas and themes in order to create a complex and exciting short story.
